1) Description White or cream coloured crystalline powder or flakes.
2) Solubility Freely soluble in chloroform, in dichloromethane and in ethanol (95%) soluble in acetone; slightly soluble in ether, practically insoluble in water.
3) Identification
Light absorption in the range 230 nm to 360nm of 0.001% w/v soluble in ethanol exhibits a maximum only at about 309 nm; absorbance at about 309 nm, about 0.3.
Gives reactions of benzoates.
Melts between 98oC and 102oC
